Have you already heard about the Center of Music, a new project of Lesser Poland’s owners, which in a few years will become a real pearl of Cracow’s Grzegórzki district? Thanks to him, students of the Music Academy will gain a professional learning space, local artists a new place for rehearsals and recordings, and we – residents of Cracow and music lovers – a fantastic cultural institution that will color our free time with an extensive offer of concerts and festivals.
Grzegórzki – a new capital of Cracow music
The Music Center in Cracow is an investment that the Cracow media have heard about for several years. After determining the design and the land issue, this idea begins to take shape. Today we know that the Music Center and the specially designed Park of Music surrounding it are to be built up to 2024. This extraordinary place will be created in the immediate vicinity of the Kurlandzki Boulevard in Cracow’s Grzegórzki district, just a few steps from the Vistula Terraces 2.0!
Frank Gehry and the world-class project of the Academy
The Cracow Center of Music is a project that is implemented in cooperation with several public institutions. The first of them is the Academy of Music in Cracow. She supervises the creation of a didactic part in this extremely complex complex, which will primarily serve younger generations of musicians.
Part of the educational part of the project are to be didactic rooms and a concert hall, which will serve musicians as a professional place for rehearsals and learning. The main feature of these rooms is, above all, excellent acoustics. The designers standing behind these technical solutions for the new Academy emphasize, however, that they will be characterized not only by unique functionality, but also by the innovativeness of architectural solutions. We already know that the project for the new headquarters was won by Frank Gehry – a world-famous architect, author of such buildings as the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao or the Dancing House in Prague.
A modern complex of concert halls
The second institution that actively supports the creation of the Music Center on Grzegórzki is the Lesser Poland Voivodeship. Its purpose is to build concert halls with specialist facilities that will serve both the most important artistic groups from Cracow (such as the Karol Szymanowski Philharmonic in Cracow, Capella Cracoviensis and Sinfonietta Cracovia), as well as artists coming from other cities and countries. Thanks to this part of the Music Center, the residents of Cracow and tourists visiting the city will be able to enjoy an even more extensive offer of cultural events.
5 hectares of green space for the residents of Cracow
No less important part of this project is the renewal and arrangement of the space surrounding the future Music Center. Thanks to this, an investment will be created, for which the City of Cracow is responsible and which will consist of an interestingly arranged music park of the size of 5 hectares. Another green space in our city will positively affect the urban tissue of Cracow and contribute to the fight against air pollution.
The institutions responsible for the implementation of the Music Center project emphasize that the most important goal of the investment is to create a common musical space for the residents of Cracow. It is to be a friendly place to work, study, relax and create, vibrant and providing a range of interesting leisure options even on those days where concerts will not take place.
Plans, projects, contracts. And what’s next?
We welcome the fact that the development plan for this part of Grzegórzki was consulted with the local community. We look forward to the next steps leading to the finalization of the project. What plans do its organizers have? In the coming years, the contractor will choose the contractor. Construction works are planned for 2020-2023. The initial cost of the entire investment is approx. PLN 265 million.
A musical project that will change the neighborhood of Vistula Terraces 2.0
The Music Center is an investment that really pleases us! Thanks to it, the inhabitants of Cracow, and, above all, those living in the close vicinity of the inhabitants of Wiślane Tarasy 2.0 will gain a unique, green space filled with music and rest. We can not wait to see the first performances of world-class stars taking place in the new concert halls. What do you think about the new investment in Cracow?
